Global awareness is being sensitive to the differences between your native culture and foreign cultures. This sensitivity extends to, not only discussions about these different cultures, but also interactions and exchanges with people from different cultures. Being globally aware can include recognizing necessary behaviors while aboard or acknowledging the cultural diversity of your own classroom. I believe that I am a globally aware person. I love to learn about different cultures and talk with people who can give me more insight about them. While student teaching, there were students in my class from a Islamic background. During the course of my student teaching I had to teach about the growth and expansion of Islam and the Middle East. If ever their were a time where these students felt the need to correct or expand on the information I was giving, I openly welcomed their input. I believe that being globally aware doesn't mean knowing everything there is to know about one culture or another, but is to be open to correction and new information that may present itself. It is also understanding how to distinguish between generalizations or stereotypes and what is actually true, because they may not always align.
